Board Evaluation Worksession Background
Below are the questions for a simple, effective worksession that can be facilitated by the Board Chair, the CEO or anyone else who is comfortable as a facilitator. In half an hour to 45 minutes, the Board will learn a lot about itself, what Directors are thinking and what the Board's priorities might be. The facilitator should take notes and get the notes back to the Board Chair and participating Directors, with recommendations on how to to proceed next.
An interesting twist for more insight
Do the Board evaluation worksession with the CEO first. Then, with the CEO out of the room, do it with the Board of Directors. Compare perspectives and concerns. This approach frequently highlights the natural tensions and differences in perspective between the Board and the CEO.
