Tips for Using the Nonprofit Board Self-Assessment
- Include the CEO in the Board Evaluation process. The CEO works closely with the Board. Their insight is valuable.
- Ensure responses are confidential. Some participants will not respond fully or honestly if they fear that there responses are not confidential.
- Keep the time period reasonable for participants to complete and return the Fillable Board Evaluation Template. A couple of days is too little time. A couple of weeks is seldom necessary.
- Summarize the results and discuss with the full Board. Typically this is handled by the Governance Committee or an outside consultant.
